[attr="class","anyapost"]her position has been kept under wraps, so to speak. her research is mostly confidential, as she only shares what she's forced to with her benefactors. the end goal, the rewards, the money--none of that fancy her. she wants only free reign to research what she wishes, and she wants the supplies to do so.

still, she's been working tirelessly in her lab for nearly three days straight. somehow even exhaustion looks beautiful on her.

kain noses at her palm as they walk. she coos at the lion and tickles him behind the ear as they walk.

she has very little authority over her fellow rocket members, but something about her presence demands attention. she's sent errand boys out around the region to collect what she needs and very rarely do they return empty-handed.

While not exhausted due to slaving over research - Emma had absolutely no interest in the hobby - she was more distracted than normal. More willing to lounge around and not care about anything. Not that she ever cared, but the lounging around part was new.[break][break]

But, even while tired and mentally depleted, Emma couldn't stay still for long. Hades kept close to her side, ever watchful. No one dared step foot in Slateport since Rocket had sieged the city, but one couldn't be too careful. [break][break]

Not far ahead of her a beautiful redhead and her Pyroar walk. They seem engrossed with each other, which Emma finds a little unsettling. She glances to Hades, who doesn't seem to have noticed anything amiss. Apparently, Anya doesn't pose a threat to the pair of them.[break][break]

Although, Emma is fairly certain the two have not yet met. She wouldn't have forgotten such a beautiful face that easily.[break][break]

[attr="class","anyapost"]she's aware that someone is following them only because of shiva's grumbling yawn. the lioness' ear flicks; anya eyes the movement in her peripheral, but otherwise doesn't react. the pokemon will protect her should this person mean her harm.

and, in slateport, surrounded by people who don't know who she is, that's happened more than once. she's been warned to stay in her quarters, to keep to herself, or at least wear the rocket symbol, but she sees no point in uniforms, in the militaristic order of things.

the man has stretched himself too thin. it will only be a matter of time before plans reach their apex.

her gait slows when the stranger makes herself known. she turns, looking surprised, and it takes her a moment to recognize the beast from the files she's studied. ah, the wolfe.

she looks curiously at the lycanroc by her side. "nor am i," she says; red ringlet curls grace her cheek as she tilts her head. "though i see we both crave companionship on this lonely night."

shiva and kain sit in unison at either side of her. "tell me, what determined the shape in which your lycanroc took upon evolution?"

It hasn't even occurred to her that Anya might not be Rocket. That she might be some stupid white-coated hero trying to prowl around in the night. No one is foolish enough to step into Slateport, especially not at night.[break][break]

The woman's response bears no also bears no threat of suspicion, not that Emma was looking for any. She wasn't hunting for blood tonight.[break][break]

Lycanroc watches the pair of Pyroar with a guarded stare, remaining close to his own trainer should they pose a threat.[break][break]

While Anya speaks, Emma patiently listens. The mention of Hades brings her to glance at the beast at her left, but her hand doesn't raise to stroke him, and Hades doesn't move any closer.[break][break]

"He evolved at midnight during a full moon."[break][break]

Hades moves then, but only because movement to the left of him has caught his attention. His eyes seem to fill with fire, burning a brighter red as he leers into the dark. A pair of beady eyes stare back at him, along with a poisonous gas that inches towards them.[break][break]

Emma steps aside, moving away from the poisonous breeze while Lycanroc handles the situation, inhaling deeply with ODOR SLEUTH to locate the wild Pokemon, and CRUNCH to bring it to Emma's view.[break][break]

She tosses a pokeball easily towards the Stunky before returning her attention to Anya.[break][break]

color anya impressed.

its partner, a cacturne, tumbles out from the bushes and raises a spiky arm. anya cocks her head and snaps her fingers. shiva stands from her seated position, tail flicking. fire erupts from her jaws; her mane burns intensely, embers sparking. the cacturne is consumed. it squeals, writhes, and anya ends its pain just before it goes limp by throwing a ball.

"like those stories of old," she says as kain fetches her the still ball and brings it to her waiting palm. "of the men who changed forms when the moon was full. i've always loved those silly stories."

lips twitch in a smile. "a play on your name then? i was told you favored spiders."

Until Anya speaks again, Emma has remained silent and has already put away the Stunky's pokeball. Hades has also returned to her side, calm and collected. His eyes still trail after the two Pyroar, but he remains silent and sombre.[break][break]

"Yes."[break][break]

She says this in response to her 'stories of old', a tight nod the only real indication she had heard.[break][break]

Her gaze slides to her smirk, then up to her eyes as she teases her about her name. Betraying no emotion other than her stone cold expression, Emma blinks.[break][break]

"I favour both."[break][break]

[attr="class","anyapost"]the spiders, she'd heard rumors about, but it makes sense. what better assistants to carry out her work than creatures that lurk in corners, that carry poison in their fangs, and dance quietly on delicate, silk-spun webs?

shiva and kain make more noises in the underbrush and anya sighs, holds a hand up to put a pause on their conversation. she forces her way through the overgrowth to find the two lions tumbling with a couple of poison-types.

the air is charged with the rivalry smoking off of all parties. anya laughs as kain snarls and sinks his teeth into the nidorina's side; her horn catches him on the jowl. poison sprays and he snarls as the taste invades his mouth.

she throws a pointed ball at the nidorina.

She had found each of her spiders as younglings, and she had tirelessly mothered and crooned over them. To her, she felt no love for her Pokemon companions, the vast majority of them were merely tools for her to use to do her job. But it was always fairly evident from an outside perspective that she cared for her Pokemon.[break][break]

There's the sound of struggle coming from the bushes, and the woman's two Pyroar have buried their faces in the underbrush, clearly invested in something. [break][break]

Hades steps in only because Emma raises her hand for him to do so, and he glances back at her once before pouncing on the Nidorino right before he slams into the side of the Pyroar holding his female counterpart. [break][break]

He's aware of the Pokemon's poisonous spikes, given that Emma has both a Nidorina and Nidorino in her arsenal. So he merely uses the rougher and more protected part of his paws to tumble the wild Pokemon towards Emma. She throws a pokeball at it lazily before casting a glance at the woman.[break][break]

"You can have that. I already have one."[break][break]
